About the Project

Silvanus, a vertical garden company, collaborated with Üsküdar Municipality to develop a 100m2 vertical garden project near the Mihrimah Sultan Mosque in the heart of the city. This project was designed using large-scale plant motifs and specific tree branches, consisting entirely of living plants. A total of 3,000 plants were used in this project, which aesthetically showcases the historical values of Istanbul.

This project stands out not just for its greenery, but for its artistic detail. Unlike standard green walls, this installation uses plants as a painter uses colors to depict the iconic silhouettes of Istanbul.

  • Total Area: 100 m²

  • Plant Count: 3,000 live plants

  • Location: Üsküdar Square (Near Marmaray Station)

  • Technique: Hydroponic felt system with integrated irrigation.

We Reflected Our Values on Walls

In our project, the well-known values of Istanbul such as Mihrimah Sultan Mosque and Maiden’s Tower are depicted and the historical values of the city and the country are aesthetically exhibited with vertical gardens. This project is an example of bringing together the values of the city with vertical garden technology in a natural and aesthetic way.

Where Istanbul’s History Meets Nature. Located in the heart of Üsküdar, right next to the historic Mihrimah Sultan Mosque, this project is a perfect blend of urban landscaping and artistic expression. In collaboration with Üsküdar Municipality, Silvanus transformed a bare concrete wall into a 100m² living masterpiece that breathes life into the city square.

Vertical Garden Technology

Our project was realized using vertical garden technology and plant wall systems. Vertical gardens replace traditional gardens, allowing the creation of green spaces even in limited areas. Living walls, on the other hand, allow the air to be purified and a natural environment to be created through vegetation. In this way, a natural solution to air pollution problems in cities is offered. Our project aims to set an example for increasing the use of vertical gardens in Istanbul, adding a different richness to the city. By greening the narrow spaces in cities with vertical gardens, people will be able to live a life in touch with nature. In addition, living walls can alleviate some of the stressful lifestyle in cities.

Enrich Your City with Vertical Gardens

As Silvanus Vertical Garden, this project, which we realized together with Üsküdar Municipality, aims to add a different richness to the city by combining the historical values of Istanbul with vertical garden technology. Our project also sets an example in terms of increasing the use of vertical gardens and protecting natural areas in cities.

Urban Greening Benefits

In a bustling district like Üsküdar, vertical gardens serve a purpose beyond aesthetics. This project acts as a “Green Lung” for the busy square.

1. Air Quality Improvement

With 3,000 active plants, the wall acts as a bio-filter. It captures dust particles from the heavy traffic and produces oxygen, contributing to a cleaner micro-climate for pedestrians.

2. Aesthetic Value for Public Spaces

This project sets an example for municipalities on how to integrate nature into dense urban fabrics. It transforms a grey retaining wall into a vibrant point of interest that honors the city’s cultural heritage.
